Trans-Mississippi Brigade

The Official Web Site of the Trans-Mississippi Brigade.

Welcome to the Department of the Trans-Mississippi, representing and promoting awareness of the American Civil War
in the states west of the Mississippi. The Confederate Trans-Mississippi Department,
the forgotten area of contention during the War Between the States.

Many battles, skirmishes along with the last major invasion of the Confederate States in the war, occurred in the area west of the Mississippi River. The "modern" Trans-Mississippi Brigade brings together as an umbrella group some of the
finest Civil War reenactment infantry units in the country.

Although we are a Confederate Brigade, we "galvanize" to portray Federals as needed for specific events.

TEXAS CIVIL WAR MUSEUM

3/19/06 When the Beaumont reenactment was cancelled due to rain, Col Sanders of the 1st ARK and some troops made a trip to the Texas Civil War Museum. If you havent been to this yet...go. It is great! Lots of amazing things in there and presented in a new impressive way. REAL FLAGS! Lot of 'em and...more Confederate shell jackets that I've seen anywhere. You will not believe how small the waist is on Gnl Robert Hoke's jacket.

Costs just $6.00 to get in...well worth the trip! Go here for more info and directions http://www.texascivilwarmuseum.com

TMB LEAVES THE FCD
The Trans-Mississippi Brigade has officialy resigned from the First Confederate Division.

They have finally torn down the Pizza Hut that stood over the spot where General Cleburne was killed... right of the pike and within a few feet of the "works". This is a great victory as battlefields are dissapearing every day due to urban sprawl.

Here are a few 2006 events that we know about....more to come.

Brig. General Mark Griffin Resigns
12/17/05 Word has come that Brig. General Mark Griffin of the Mississippi Valley Brigade has resigned his position. Gnl Griffin cited his lack of time to devote to the Brigade as one of the main reasons for his resignation. Mark and his wife are starting a new church which puts a heavy demand on his time. Mark Griffin will be long remembered for his genuine love of the reenacting hobby and his zeal for authenticity. Tom Stuart will be Acting General of the MVB.

NEW CD BY REENACTOR ROGER EPPS
Long-time reenactor and musician Roger Epps has produced a civil war CD! This fine CD has 12 ORIGINAL songs written by Roger. These songs are professionally recorded and performed by Roger Epps and a full bluegrass style group. Included is the popular original Epps song "Battle of Cabin Creek". more information and website

1/26/06 Captain Silas Tackitt, A.I.G., the FCD "drill guy" has a good point about stacking arms.

The manual says that the leaner should not be placed vertically on the stack but should be inclined. Also the #1 rear rank man places it there himself..not the front rank #2.

Also see his "breaking files to the rear".

Here is a nice authentic shell jacket that was on ebay. The brown color looks grey in the edges of the rips...most likely was the original color. It has Block I buttons.

THIS HAS BEEN IDed TO A PRIVATE JOHN M. BARRON OF THE 19TH TENNESSEE INFANTRY

CONFEDERATES AT CORINTH
8/27/05 Cpt. Richard Holloway of the 19th LA TMVI, has put together a nice presentation on the Confederates at Corinth. These 2 pdf files also include many photos of soldiers and their unifroms. Also these is a section that has the CSA commanders at Corinth along with photos. download here part 1 part 2

TMB WILL HAVE WATER BARRELS AT CORINTH

8/17/05 BgGnl Huckabee has come up with a plan so his troops can be well supplied with water at Corinth...water barrels in wagons! Oak barrels have been purchased and donated by the Prairie County Avengers (civil war music group). Col Rob Sanders of the 1st Ark is building racks so they can be mounted on their side in the wagons. They will also have spouts put in the ends for convenience in filling canteens. I have been told that water from these tastes great and stays pretty cool. They are former whiskey barrels.

THE TRIBBEY EVENT

6/13/06 The Tribbey, OK reenactment was this past weekend. Many commented that it was a really good one. The "ground" was great, the battles were hot and so was the weather. It was the first TMB event for the TMVI and they were favorably impressed and considered their recent move to the TMB a good one. BrigGeneral Huckabee was in attendance and commented that he would work to have the Tribbey event moved to the last of May or the first of June. Also he commented that he will "work to make Tribbey a big Brigade event in the next 2 years" The General was pleased with the turnout and thanks the TMB for making the event such a success.

THE 5th MISSOURI CO A.WEBSITE
5/29/05 Recently had an opportunity to view the 5th Mo. Co. A website...it's great! Look for the newsletter articles on "axle grease coffee" and "musket cleaning". Also there is a great article that contains the correct procedure to present your rifle to the inspector during arms inspection.(BrigGen Huckabee has "mentioned" that we all need to do it the same) This is a very good site that is updated and contains useful information to the members and to prospective members and is presented in a clear manner. 5th MO website...go there

Really don't know who these fellas are 'cept for the one with the gold braid.

IF YOU MISSED PORT HUDSON...YOU MISSED A GOOD ONE!
